Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind
Through classes at Sonoran Science Academy, nearly half of CRUSH students are able to speak American Sign Language. After several team members took the course in 2015, CRUSH was offered the opportunity to foster a relationship with the Arizona School for the Deaf and Blind (ASDB). CRUSH is passionate about offering STEM programs to students regardless of circumstance.
Over the past two years, CRUSH has presented and demonstrated our robot and other STEM opportunities to students of all ages at the school. In the spring of 2017, CRUSH and SSA's FTC team, T-REX, offered hands-on activities at the ASDB Science Fair with employees from Raytheon. As the event was ending, students gave CRUSH stickers they made with the technology at the ASDB. After multiple successful events, and interest from staff, CRUSH is planning on starting a FIRST Tech Challenge team at the school in the fall of 2017.
