Once a month, CRUSH volunteers at a local Tucson food bank. On the 8th, our members spent two hours of the evening packaging meals for families. In two hours, 22 team members packaged over 11,000 meals. CRUSH mentor, Toni Ramos Hickman, stated that “It is hugely important to make these types of community connections outside normal STEM activities.” We will be back at the food bank on December 13th.
On November 17th & 18th, CRUSH hosted our 3rd annual FLL Tournament at SSA-Tucson. At the event, local teams of 4th-8th graders were able to compete and present their Hydrodynamics themed projects. 33 CRUSH members set up the tournament and helped fill key volunteer roles like referees, judges, and field reset. Daniel, a first year CRUSH member, said, “It was really cool to be able to help the kids have a fun and beneficial experience with robotics.” CRUSH will also be helping run the second Tucson FLL Tournament this weekend, on Dec. 8th and 9th.
